Twist Bioscience

Custom panels — target enrichment tailored precisely to your needs

Custom NGS panels from Twist Bioscience give you full control over the targets you sequence. dsDNA probes with a proprietary design for DNA, RNA and methylation workflows. Higher coverage uniformity, a high on-target rate and delivery within 3–4 weeks.

  • > 1M Probes in a single panel
  • 3–4 Weeks lead time
  • 99.5% Average uniformity
  • DNA/RNA and methylation workflows
Key advantages

Three reasons to choose Twist custom panels

Flexibility

You can modify the panel with every order: add genes, regions or variants. No design freeze, no additional fees for changes.

Maximum support

Our team of 3GENES application specialists will design the panel with you, guide you through the entire library preparation and help you with data analysis.

Fast delivery

A lead time of 3–4 weeks, so you receive your panel promptly and can move your project forward faster.

Comparison with competitors

Twist vs. traditional target enrichment

Traditional panels from other suppliers often suffer from uneven coverage, probe redundancy and a high off-target rate. Twist addresses every one of these issues.

Criterion
Twist
Traditional panels
Probe design
Per-target screening: for each target, the best probe is selected from many candidates
Universal one-size-fits-all design, often centred on the target
Coverage uniformity
Higher (reference value 99.5%)
Lower, with peaks and dips
On-target rate
Higher thanks to precise synthesis and screening
Lower due to off-target hybridisation
Customisation
Fully customisable with every order, no redesign fees
Often fixed content, with surcharges for change orders
Lead time
3–4 weeks
Often 6+ weeks
Panel size
From a few to > 1,000,000 probes
Limited size range
QC
NGS QC validation of every batch
Variable QC methods

Panel types

DNA, RNA, methylation and long‑read panels

DNA

DNA Custom Panels

For genomic analysis: SNPs, fusions, structural variants, CNVs and indels. "Probe shifter" technology selects the best probe for each target and minimises off-target capture.

Twist DNA panel: probe shifter technology selects the best probe
  • SNPs, fusions, CNVs, indels
  • Probe shifter technology: best probe per target
  • Minimises off-target capture
  • Suitable for oncology, hereditary diseases and clinical research
RNA

RNA Custom Panels

Target enrichment of RNA libraries converted to cDNA. The probes are designed with the exon structure in mind and capture fusion transcripts, splice variants and individual isoforms. Probes spanning exon boundaries make it possible to resolve complete, full-length transcripts.

Twist RNA panel: exon-aware probe design
  • Enrichment of cDNA libraries
  • Exon-aware probe design
  • Probes spanning exon boundaries for fusion capture
  • Splice variants and isoform resolution
Methylation

Methylation Custom Panels

Four probe types for each target: fully methylated, fully unmethylated, sense and antisense. Preserves the methylation pattern during hybridisation and maintains high uniformity.

Twist methylation panel: 4 probe types per target
  • 4 probe types per target
  • Fully and partially methylated variants
  • Sense and antisense coverage
  • High uniformity after bisulfite conversion
Long-read

Long-read Custom Panels

Target enrichment for long-read platforms (PacBio HiFi, ONT). Longer probes and a dedicated design for long fragments give access to regions that short-read technologies cannot reach (repeats, pseudogenes, structural variants).

Coverage of the GBA gene: short-read WGS shows a coverage gap, while long-read HiFi data from the Twist panel cover both haplotypes in full
  • Compatible with PacBio HiFi and ONT
  • Longer probes for long fragments
  • Access to repetitive regions and pseudogenes
  • Ideal for structural variants and haplotyping
Main applications

What you can tackle with custom panels

Oncology research

Targeted panels for somatic variants, fusions and CNVs. MRD detection from cfDNA. TMB, MSI and HRD biomarkers.

Rare diseases

Hereditary disorders, repeat expansion disorders and mitochondrial diseases.

Liquid biopsy

Cell-free DNA panels for detecting low-frequency variants. Real-time MRD monitoring and hereditary cancer screening.

Immunology and TCR/BCR

Custom panels for immune repertoire analysis, MHC regions and HLA typing. Panel designs targeting TCR/BCR loci using probes that span junction regions (junction-spanning probes).

Agrigenomics

Custom panels for the analysis of polyploid genomes (e.g. in blueberry breeding), plant pathogen detection and targeted analysis of agronomically important loci.

Clinical diagnostics

Panels for clinical applications: pharmacogenomics, genetic predisposition and infectious disease diagnostics.
